Text 1
W: Oh my goodness! I cannot find the key. It’s not in my pocket.
M: What? I remember you put it in your backpack.
W: Ah, there it is. Thank you.
Text 2
W: I have a ten-day vacation. Would you like to go to Japan with me?
M: I’m sorry I can’t. My house is being decorated and I’m badly in need of money.
Text 3
M: How is your new job, Bonnie?
W: It’s not as easy as my last one. It needs me to stay focused throughout the day, which is demanding.
Text 4
M: Let’s go to play rugby.
W: I think it’s still raining now.
M: No, it has stopped. But we won’t be able to see sunshine in a short period.
Text 5
W: Happy birthday, Albert!
M: Thank you. However, my birthday is not on Christmas Eve. It’s on Boxing Day this year, that is, the day after Christmas Day.
W: Oh, I’m sorry.
Text 6
M: I saw a diagram on the Internet, which shows that we remember 10 percent of what we hear, 20 percent of what we read, 30 percent of what we see, 70 percent of what we discuss with others, 80 percent of what we do and 95 percent of what we teach others.
W: Wow, how amazing the study is! It seems that we should put into practice and try to teach someone else after learning.
M: Precisely.
W: So what exactly should we do to adjust our learning styles?
M: OK, let me tell you...
Text 7
M: A teenage girl named Jennifer fainted in the PE class and was treated immediately in our hospital.
W: Oh, what happened?
M: Her parents told the doctor that she skipped breakfast that day. She was trying to lose weight then.
W: Does she think skipping meals is the simplest way to lose weight?
M: Yes. That’s an unhealthy weight-loss habit. Some people even try weight-loss pills.
W: She’s at a young age. Why does she care so much about the appearance?
M: Kids today are very different from those decades ago.
Text 8
W: Carl, what are your favorite ways to get new information? TV, radio or newspaper?
M: Ha-ha, none of them. I’m accustomed to using microblog.
W: I used to use this kind of media like Twitter, but I find it difficult to get the right information and sometimes it is of poor quality.
M: I think I can get up-to-date information easily on it. So how do you get recent news now?
W: Hmm... Listening to the radio and watching TV, which usually spread positive energy, are suitable approaches to getting information.
M: This kind of traditional media is totally out of date. With the rapid development of technology, you are unlikely to get the latest news through them.
W: Everyone has their own ideas, so you can’t force me to give up what I like.
Text 9
W: Luke, I can’t believe your grandpa knows how to use the computer.
M: It took me a long time to teach him. I only let him play with my old computer at first. The first time he used it, the computer crashed, and it scared him when the computer turned completely blue.
W: Oh, that’s a disaster. But I saw him playing your new computer.
M: Yes. He knows enough about the computer now. So there’s nothing to worry about.
W: Why does he want to play the new technique? Is it for video chatting with family?
M: Far from that. Most importantly, he can buy things online like we do. Besides, he will see some live matches, play games and chat with his friends for a while.
W: That’s a good thing. I’m going home now.
M: Why? It is still early.
W: Yeah, but I want to teach my mom to use the smartphone this evening. So I can see her face and hear her voice when I’m abroad.
M: OK. See you tomorrow.
Text 10
M: Some of my friends were visiting grandparents in Florida, while others were going to the Louvre in Paris. My brother had even been invited by his friend’s family to go to the beach in Bangkok. However, my parents couldn’t take vacation during Christmas week.
I came home from school that day to find a newsletter, which contained an ad for a community-service trip during Christmas week. I sent in an application anyway, went for an interview, and was actually very excited when I was accepted into the program. But I was worried at the airport the day we set off because I had never been so far from home by myself.
On Christmas Day, we served Christmas dinner to homeless people. Afterward, we saw how the walls of the temple had been damaged by ten feet of floodwater. Then we helped clean the grounds of a local temple.
The project I loved most was helping at an animal rescue center. We walked the animals, and fed them. Six thousand dogs and cats, separated from their owners, were rescued by that shelter after the hurricane.
When I returned to New York and told my friends about my trip, I realized how ridiculous I had been to be jealous of their Christmas plans. All the things I saw in New Orleans, and the small ways I would contribute to the rebuilding of the city made that week the most memorable vacation I can imagine.

When girls play with cars, they're serious. It was at primary school that Gu Huijing first became interested in cars after watching some car-themed movies. Born in 2004 in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, Gu decided to major in automobiles (汽车) when she was in junior high.
She's driven by interest, but she is also a realist. “I think the future of the automobile industry is bright because we cannot live without food, clothes, houses and cars,” she said.
In April, she won first prize at a competition for vehicle maintenance (车辆维修) in Dongguan city, which drew 33 teams from different cities across the province.
“I thought it couldn't be that hard to repair cars when I started to take courses, but I was totally wrong,” Gu said. When she started learning in 2019, she was frequently confused by various problems. “And competition within our school is intense, so I had to work extra hard,” she said.
Her teacher once tried to persuade her to give up as she was a sophomore (大二学生), and wasn't as knowledgeable as the seniors, and no women had ever been selected for the competition before. “But I insisted that I would carry on,” she said. Finally, her training and hard work won her the only place to stand for her school at the competition.
A woman winning first prize in a vehicle maintenance competition became a hot topic on-line, causing heated discussions over gender (性别) and career choices. “Women should not be influenced by old-fashioned thinking, and should do whatever it takes to discover their interests and strengths. There are more possibilities out there,” one netizen wrote.
Gu said, “Many people think vehicle maintenance is a job for men. That's wrong. I don't think gender has anything to do with choice of jobs.” “I have a goal and I will work harder to make it happen,” she added. “I will be responsible for my choices.”
24. What was a cause of Gu's choosing automobiles as her major?
A. The love for automobiles.
B. The guidance from her parents.
C. The high popularity of automobiles.
D. The determination to contribute to society.
25. Why did Gu's teacher advise her to quit the competition?
A. She lacked the knowledge related to it.
B. She had never taken part in a competition before.
C. She was unlikely to win the competition.
D. Women were not allowed to enter the competition.
26. Which of the following best describes Gu Huijing?
A. Creative and caring.        B. Determined and hard-working.
C. Independent and humorous.        D. Honest and courageous.
27. What would be the best title for the text?
A. There Is No End To Learning
B. Teenage Girl Wins Car Repair Contest
C. Vehicle Maintenance Catches On
D. Taking Challenge Leads To Success

根据第一段的“It was at primary school that Gu Huijing first became interested in cars after watching some car-themed movies. Born in 2004 in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, Gu decided to major in automobiles (汽车) when she was in junior high.(在上小学的时候,顾慧静看了一些以汽车为主题的电影后,第一次对汽车产生了兴趣。谷女士2004年出生于广东省深圳市,初中时她决定主修汽车专业。)”可知,对汽车的热爱是顾女士选择汽车专业的原因之一,故选A
25. C。推理判断题。根据第五段的Her teacher once tried to persuade her to give up as she was a sophomore, and wasn't as knowledgeable as the seniors, and no women had ever been selected for the competition before.(她的老师曾经试图说服她放弃,因为她是一个大二学生,没有大四学生那么博学,而且以前从来没有女性被选中参加比赛。
根据第五段的““But I insisted that I would carry on,” she said. Finally, her training and hard work won her the only place to stand for her school at the competition.“但我坚持要坚持下去,”她说。最后,她的训练和努力为她赢得了学校在比赛中唯一的一席之地。)”可推知,顾慧静是有决心的和努力的,故选B
27. B。主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第三段的In April, she won first prize at a competition for vehicle maintenance (车辆维修) in Dongguan city, which drew 33 teams from different cities across the province.(今年4月,她在东莞市的一场汽车维修比赛中获得了一等奖,该比赛吸引了来自全省不同城市的33支队伍。

TikTok has pushed a new safety update in November to its app that allows parents to take more control of their teenager’s accounts, as social media companies come under increasing pressure to make their platforms safer for children.
The company said Tuesday that its “Family Pairing” feature now enables parents to turn off comments on their children’s videos entirely or to limit them to friends only. Parents whose accounts are linked to their kids will also be able to set their accounts to private, turn off the search function for content, users or sounds, and limit who can see which videos their children have liked.
Launched in March, the Family Pairing tool lets parents see how long their children are spending on TikTok each day and limit the content they can see.
TikTok allows children to register and create an account if they’re over the age of 13. All they need to do is provide their date of birth. However, because TikTok doesn’t require registers to prove their identities, some children under 13 have registered by lying about their age, according to U.K. regulator Ofcom(英国通讯管理局).
Alexandra Evans, head of child safety public policy for TikTok in Europe, told CNBC that Family Pairing has “put itself in parents’ shoes” since it was launched.
“If we’re thinking about it as a toolbox, we wanted to offer more tools,” she said on a video call ahead of the announcement.
28. What pushed TikTok to launch the new update?
A. The pressure from social media        B. The concern about kids’ online safety
C. The force from government        D. The increasing need of users
29. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A. The safety tips from TikTok        B. New apps explored by TikTok
C. New functions of Family Pairing        D. The limits on Family Pairing
30. What’s Evans attitude towards the new Family Piaring?
A. Uninterested        B. Objective        C. Disappointed        D. Supportive
31. What might be the best title of the passage?
A. TikTok’s Safety Update        B. New Guidelines for Safety
C. Family Pairing under Debate        D. Controlling Your Kids Online

TikTok has pushed a new safety update in November to its app that allows parents to take more control of their teenager’s accounts, as social media companies come under increasing pressure to make their platforms safer for children.(随着社交媒体公司面临越来越大的压力,要求他们的平台对儿童更安全,TikTok11月向其应用程序推出了新的安全更新,允许父母更多地控制他们十几岁的孩子的账户)”可知,对孩子上网安全的担忧促使TikTok发布新的更新,故选B
The company said Tuesday that its “Family Pairing” feature now enables parents to turn off comments on their children’s videos entirely or to limit them to friends only.(该公司周二表示,其“家庭配对”功能现在可以让父母完全关闭对孩子视频的评论,或者只允许朋友评论)”可知,第二段主要讲的是家庭配对的新功能,故选C
Alexandra Evans, head of child safety public policy for TikTok in Europe, told CNBC that Family Pairing has “put itself in parents’ shoes” since it was launched.TikTok欧洲儿童安全公共政策负责人亚历山德拉·埃文斯告诉CNBC,家庭配对自 推出以来“站在了父母的立场上”)”和最后一段的““If we’re thinking about it as a toolbox, we wanted to offer more tools,” she said on a video call ahead of the announcement.“如果我们把它看作一个工具箱,我们想提供更多的工具,”她在宣布之前的视频电话中说)”可推断出Evans认为家庭配对功能很有意义,因此是持支持的态度,故选D

When you were trying to figure out what to buy for the environmentalist on your holiday list, fur probably didn’t cross your mind. But some ecologists and fashion (时装) enthusiasts are trying to bring back the market for fur made from nutria(海狸鼠).
Unusual fashion shows in New Orleans and Brooklyn have showcased nutria fur made into clothes in different styles. “It sounds crazy to talk about guilt-free fur unless you understand that the nutria are destroying vast wetlands every year”, says Cree McCree, project director of Righteous Fur.
Scientists in Louisiana were so concerned that they decided to pay hunters $5 a tail. Some of the fur ends up in the fashion shows like the one in Brooklyn last month.
Nutria were brought there from Argentina by fur farmers and let go into the wild. “The ecosystem down there can’t handle this non-native species(物种). It’s destroying the environment. It’s them or us." says Michael Massimi, an expert in this field.
The fur trade kept nutria check for decadesbut when the market for nutria collapsed in the late 1980s, the cat-sized animals multiplied like crazy.
Biologist Edmond Mouton runs the nutria control program for Louisiana. He says it’s not easy to convince people that nutria fur is green, but he has no doubt about it. Hunters bring in more than 300,000 nutria tails a year, so part of Mouton’s job these days is trying to promote fur.
Then there’s Righteous Fur and its unusual fashion. Morgan says“To give people a guilt-free option that they can wear without someone throwing paint on them—I think that’s going to be a massive thing, at least here in New York.” Designer Jennifer Anderson admits it took her a while to come around to the opinion that using nutria fur for her creations is morally acceptable. She is trying to come up with a label to attach to nutria fashions to show it is eco-friendly.
32. What is the purpose of the fashion shows in New Orleans and Brooklyn?
A. To promote guilt-free fur.
B. To expand the fashion market.
C. To introduce a new brand.
D. To celebrate a winter holiday.
33. Why are scientists concerned about nutria?
A. Nutria damage the ecosystem seriously.
B. Nutria are an endangered species.
C. Nutria hurt local cat-sized animals.
D. Nutria are illegally hunted.
34 What does the underlined word “collapsed” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Boomed.
B. Became mature.
C. Remained stable.
D. Crashed.
35. What can we infer about wearing fur in New York according to Morgan?
A. It’s formal.                          B. It’s risky.                C. It’s harmful.                        D. It’s traditional.

33. A。 Scientists in Louisiana were so concerned that they decided to pay hunters $5 a tail.
The fur trade kept nutria in check for decades, but when the market for nutria collapsed in the late 1980s,the cat-sized animals multiplied like crazy.

Leland Scales has been interested in food most of his life. He started working in restaurants when he was 14. He has a Master of Arts in food studies from Chatham University. Scales now works for an organization in Pittsburgh called 412 Food Rescue. Here is an interview with him.
Q: At Chatham University, you learned about social justice and food.     36
Scales: It completely changed my perspective on many aspects of the food system. I have to credit my experiences there for a great deal of the social justice work I am doing with 412 Food Rescue. It shaped my path for life.
Q: How did you get interested in 412 Food Rescue?
Seales:    37       So when I graduated, I came on board as a part-time truck driver.
Q: What do you do at 412 now?
Scales: I find non-profit organizations that get free food to people, such as an after-school program for kids that includes feeding them.    38       I try to build communities around Pittsburgh that work to end food waste. Honestly, though, my duties are not fixed because we all just fill in where we are needed depending on the day’s situations.
Q: Sounds like you wear lots of hats. What do you love about your job?
Scales: I love that we are able to help organizations get food to the people who really need it on a daily basis.
Q:    39
Scales: It’s known that even with all the great work we do to get food into the hands of those who need it, there’s still tons of food waste and there are still people out there who are in need of food.
Q: How does your organization use technology to fight hunger?
Scales: Our Food Rescue Hero app allows us to alert our food rescue heroes of donations in the area.    40
Q: Food rescue heroes? Who are they?
Scales: They are people who volunteer to help us get food to the organizations we partner with.
A. What did you do there?
B. What’s the worst part of your job?

I’d planned to spend my weekend in the sun, enjoying flowers outdoors. But that was    41      the pair of disgusting crows (乌鸦) arrived. Out of nowhere, they had set up their base    42      in our backyard.
We first    43      our feathered enemies on Friday morning. It was early, and the sound the birds made    44     through our neighborhood. I figured they’d    45      soon. But, no. They were getting louder and probably    46      my neighbors nearly as much as us with the noise. I admit I got a little    47     .
Then, on Sunday afternoon, I saw our dog Quatchi staring at something on the ground. I went to    48      and found a small coal-black bird in the grass. Its eyes were milky, and it stayed perfectly    49      as my dog walked towards it. Only when Quatchi    50      his nose to its head did it walk away. I    51      the dog inside and came back with my camera.
It never occurred to me that the young would be hanging out on the ground, growing and gaining    52      as its parents guarded it from above. The second I saw this little creature I    53      the crows.
To be honest, I’ve never been much of a bird person. And I wish they’d chosen another backyard. But I’m also    54      that I got to see this little bit of nature unfold up close. It’s pretty amazing.
The experience has also    55      my desire to create a beautiful backyard garden that attracts lots of bees, butterflies, and yes, birds. They are welcome here.

1.活动目的;

One possible version:
Warm Clothes, Warm Heart
Last week, the Student Union in our school organized an activity named “Warm Clothes for Winter” to show love and care to the children in the poverty-stricken mountainous areas.
Nearly all the students took an active part in this special activity, donating clothes, gloves and so on to help the less fortunate live through the freezing winter. The activity was welcomed by both the students and the poor children far away.
Unquestionably, students find such an activity quite rewarding. Not only do they know that they have improved the lives of others, but also they feel a strong sense of achievement. It is giving that makes the difference.
Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. The doctors didn't hold too much hope for their recovery. “What both of them need is a miracle,” they said. One man's bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. The companionship grew stronger as time went by.
Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside. These periods gave him something to hold on to while he went through the pain of treatment.
The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm among flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.
As the man by the window described all this in detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the amazing scenes. One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band, he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window described it with vivid words.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

The man was greatly surprised at what he saw when he took his first look out of the window.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
One morning, the nurse found the man by the window lying lifelessly on the bed. He had died peacefully in his sleep. She was sad and called the hospital attendants to take the body away. And the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it for himself. He supported himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.
The man was greatly surprised at what he saw when he took his first look out of the window. It faced a blank wall. Later the man asked the nurse why his roommate described such wonderful things. The nurse responded that the man was blind and perhaps he described the beautiful scene outside the window just to encourage him. There is great happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.
