Step 1 Lead- in
1.Greet the students as usual.
2.Show some details in the classroom. Have a free talk about what the teacher is doing and what the students are doing with the students.
I often stand in the classroom.
But now I am standing in the classroom.
I am speaking to you now.    I am teaching you now.
You are sitting now.         You are listening to me.
Help the students be aware of the meanings of those sentences.
And guide students to understand what Present Progressive Tense is.
Step 2 Presentation and Practice
   First, check the students’ pronunciations of the new words. Make sure that students have the right pronunciations in 1a.
   Then, students finish these tasks.
Task 1  I can classify the pictures and phrases!
  1.Discuss the phrases in 1a. Then discuss the pictures in it.
2.Ask students to match the activities with the pictures in 1a.
3.Guide students to pay attention to the forms of the phrases in 1a.
   4.Encourage students to put up their hands to talk about other activities in our life.
Task 2  I can listen!
  1.Students have listening practice by finishing Task 2(1b).
2.Check the answers. Praise the students who do the best.
   3.Explain the sentences in 1b together. Have the students know how to talk about what other people are doing by using the Present Progressive Tense.
    (1)What are you doing?
       I am watching TV.
    (2)What is John doing?
      He is washing the dishes.
    (3)What are Dave and Mary doing?
      They are listening to a CD.
Task 3  I can speak!
Ask the students to read conversations in 1c together and make their own conversations. Then, ask some pairs to perform their conversations before class.At last list some key points on the blackboard. Explain them in details if necessary.
e.g.(1) What is he doing?
     He is using the computer.
   (2) What are they doing?
They are listening to a CD.
   (3)What is the girl doing at home?
     She is reading a newspaper.

1.Explain the Present Progressive Tense.
现在进行时表示现在(说话瞬间)正在进行或发生的动作。
现在进行时是由助动词am / is / are 加动词形式-ing构成。

2.Explain the important points about the Present Progressive Tense in details if necessary.

  2.Recite the sentences in 1c and finish the exercises in the workbook.

Task 2 I can play !
   1.Ask students to make similar conversations according to Activity 2a and 2b.
2.Then, encourage some pairs to perform their conversations before class. Praise the students who do the best.
Task 3  I can read!
Ask students to read conversations in 2d together and discuss the meaning of the conversation. Then list some important words, phrases or some sentences on the blackboard. At last explain them in details .
e.g. 1.Hello? This is Jenny.
  这是电话用语,告诉对方自己是谁。
  This is Jenny. = This is Jenny speaking.我是詹妮
  不能用 I am Jenny.
  Who is that (speaking)?你是谁/哪位?
  不能用 Who are you?

   just 是副词,和only, always等词一样,常用于助动词和实义动词之间

       join sb.表示和某人一起(进行某项活动)

Step 3 Consolidation
First, have the students read activity 2d together.  Then ask them to make their own conversations and communicate with each other. Then, ask some pairs to perform their conversations before class. Praise the students who do the best.
After that, ask students to practice role-playing conversation in pairs.

4.Show the pictures of some daily activities on the projector or multimedia. Have a free talk about what we are doing with the students. Help the students be aware of what the Present Progressive Tense is.
Step 2 Presentation and Practice
   First, check the students’ pronunciations of Grammar Focus. Make sure that students have the right pronunciations.
Then, students finish these tasks.
Task 1  I can understand Grammar Focus!
   1.At first ask students read the sentences in Grammar Focus together.  2.Encourage students to translate the sentences into Chinese.
3.Discuss the sentences in Grammar Focus. And summarize what the Present Progressive Tense is and its different forms.
(1)What is she doing?   She is washing her clothes.
   (2)Are you doing your homework?  Yes, I am. / No, I’m not.
   (3)What are they doing?   They are listening to a CD.
   (4)Is he reading a newspaper?   No, he isnt. Hes playing basketball.
   (5)Are they using the computer?   Yes, they are.
/ No, they arent. They are exercising.
Task 2  I can write !
   1.Students practice writing by finishing Task 2 in 3a.
2.Check the answers. Praise the students who do the best.
The answers are:   3.Marys parents drink tea after dinner.
                 4. Bill is talking on the phone now.
                     5.Becky and Bob watch TV on weekends.
   3.Read the sentences in 3a together. Discuss how to distinguish the differences between Present Progressive Tense and Present Simple Tense.
  Then make some similar sentences if necessary.
Task 3  I can make a telephone conversation !
First, students read sentences in 3b. Try to understand each sentence.
Next ask them to number the sentences to make a telephone conversation.
Then, the teacher can list some important words, phrases or some sentences on the blackboard. Explain them in details if necessary.
e.g. (1)Do you want to go to the movies now?
     No, this book is really interesting.
    (2)Lets go (to the movies) at seven oclock.
      let sb. do sth.
(3)See you tomorrow evening!
      See you ( then / later ) !
At last guide students to make their own conversations according to 3b to communicate with each other. Then, ask some pairs to perform their conversations before class. Praise the students who do the best.
Step 3 Consolidation
  • Have the students read activity 3c together. And ask them to get the main idea and do the groupwork. Play the guessing game and get students to guess what one of the students is doing.
Eg. Are you swimming?/Are you reading? /Are you listening to music?
  • Ask some pairs to perform their conversations before class.
  • Explain the important phrases and sentences in details if necessary.

Step 4 Check-out
  • Fill in the blanks with the proper forms of given words.

3.Discuss the pictures and sentences in 2a.

First, students read the passage in 2b together. Ask them to point which sentences are important. Then ask students to discuss the important sentences in 2b.
Next ask students to try to translate the sentences into Chinese. Praise the students who do the best.
Then, the teacher can list some important words, phrases or some sentences on the blackboard. Explain them in details if necessary.
