Paris is the city of dreams. If you plan to head for Paris for a study period, perhaps a little reality check is in order. But my experience was a romantic one.
I paved my path to Paris through an exchange program. On arrival in Paris,I was constantly reminded of the official processes I had to complete—forms to fill in,meetings to attend—the list seemed endless.
Then the real work began.Once classes were underway,I found myself volunteering to do oral presentations and assignments first rather than last. This method proved to be very helpful.
Once I had finished classes for the week,I had an everincreasing list of museums to visit, neighborhoods to explore, and cafes to sit in.Maybe you can read books about Paris and talk to locals and other foreigners living there. But the one thing that reading a book or talking to someone cannot do is provide you with the experience of wandering Paris on foot. The people watching, the sounds of the city, and the colors as the seasons change, they all add to the ecstasy that I experienced in Paris as an exchange student.
After spending five months wandering through the charming neighborhoods,I fell in love with the atmosphere that came out from every open door and every spoken word. There is something comforting about walking to the market each Sunday to enjoy the beautiful display of fruits, vegetables and dairy products. There is warmth in saying Bonjour to the passersby.
On my last day in Paris,I confidently said “Bonjour Monsieur” as I passed the little store down the street.I guess the best part about going on exchange in Paris is falling in love with the city in your own way.And I know mine is unique and special to me—my own little pieces of Paris.

Music is often thought of as “easy” or “play time”,but it’s not that at all.Music plays a very important part in our education.
Students who learn music learn a lot of music history at school. This includes “modes(调式)”,which were used in churches during the development of music. They are still used today.Students learn about the historical events that were taking place when the music they play was written. They learn what the music was used for.So much of our culture is in music and has been for centuries.
Music also helps with science.Students use science to help them discover what sounds good together and what doesn’t.Students also need science to understand something called the “overtone series”,which is about how music is produced by vibration(颤动) and why.
Students learn a lot about languages. Many songs are written in other languages, including ancient ones.Students must learn to translate these works to understand what they are singing about. Some songs are famous poems or short works set to music.
Students learn a huge amount of coordination(协调) through music,so parts of the body can work better together.Students must use fine motor skills in order to play an instrument.Singers and players must learn breath control and be in good shape to play.
Students learn about art. Some famous pieces were written about important works of art,and students learn about the artists and styles as they’re playing the music.
Music education also brings higher thinking to our children. It allows them to think about complex patterns (How can I make my part sound better? How do this music and these different parts fit together?).Students have to know absolutely(完全地) what every other musician does at all times. In that way,it develops teamwork.
As one can see, music is very important to education besides bringing us fun.

Seal Island is a 200-meter long island in South Africa, which is surrounded by 55 to 57 degrees Fahrenheit waters and covered with over 60,000 seals and some birds. This island has been home to many birds and seals. You may think this island is a paradise. In fact, the island is not famous for the seals or birds. However, the real stars are the great white sharks that leap out of the water to catch the seals they are hunting.
You may think that there is no way for a 15-foot long,3,000-pound shark to hurl its body out of the water and catch a seal in midair.Actually, these sharks are called “Air Jaws”.
Over the years, the seals have gotten smarter. Now,they go out in groups of seven or eight to feed. They swim down on the sea floor, which gives them extra camouflage(掩饰).When they have to swim near the water surface, they swim in a zigzag(之字形的) pattern. But with all these tricks, they can still be outwitted(以智取胜) by the sharks.Usually, the sharks will take one seal away from its group and force it to swim on the surface, where it is easy to hunt.Sometimes, the seal is lucky and gets away, but most of them die in the process of trying to survive.
Every year, tourists go to see these amazing animals leap out of the water, sometimes flinging(抛) their whole bodies into the air when they want to catch the seals. Some people even want to go into shark cages to see the action from below! This is the reason why this island attracts thousands of tourists around the world every year.

___18___ “Just because you have a thought doesn’t mean it’s true. When you notice you’re being hard on yourself or thinking very negatively, take a step back and question the thought you’re having,” suggests Touroni. “___19___ Are you jumping to conclusions?”
Try a positive message mantra (咒语). When negative thoughts get a hold on you, Manly recommends focusing on a positive message or mantra that feels strong and calming for you. “For example, your mantra might be, ‘All will be well. ___20___’ ” Manly suggests keeping a copy of your mantra in your wallet, on your mirror, and on your desk for a handy reminder during stressful moments.

  • A man came home from work late again, tired and irritated , to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door. "Daddy, may I ask you a question?"
  • "Yeah, sure, what is it?" replied the man.
  • "Daddy, how much money do you make an hour?"
  • "That's none of your business. What makes you ask such a thing?" the man said angrily.
  • "I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?" pleaded the little boy.
  • "If you must know, I make $20.00 an hour."
  • "Oh," the little boy replied, head bowed.
  • Looking up, he said, "Daddy, may I borrow $10.00 please?"
  • The father was furious . "If the only reason you wanted to know how much money I make is just so you can borrow some to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you're being so selfish. I work long, hard hours everyday and don't have time for such childish games."
  • The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even madder about the little boy's questioning. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money. After an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think he may have been a little hard on his son. Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10.00 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.
  • "Are you asleep son?" he asked.
  • "No daddy, I'm awake," replied the boy.
  • "I've been thinking, may be I was too hard on you earlier," said the man.
  • "It's been a long day and I took my aggravation out on you. Here's that $10.00 you asked for."
  • The little boy sat straight up, beaming. "Oh, thank you daddy" he yelled.
