趣谈英语
在英美文化中dog的含义,褒义多过贬义,英语的dog词意与汉语之意大相径庭。英国老人在赞美年轻人时,常用"You are a good/lucky dog."。这在汉语里是完全不可能的,这就是西方文化与汉语文化的不同之处。
再则,英语中的dog含有“忠诚”、“诚实”,“不嫌贫爱富”。 还有,dog的形容词dogged, 意为“坚韧的”、“吃苦耐劳的” 其副词形式为doggedly,词义为“勤勤恳恳”,“全神贯注”,“一丝不苟”。
不过,有关dog贬义词能进入英语辞典,首先得感谢毛泽东,他七十年所创设的“走狗”(running dog)一词,迅疾被收入世界各大权威英语辞典,同时他的许多名言都被一一收入英美权威词典,这不能不说是我们中国人的骄傲。
与英语的“dog”完全不同的是,汉语的“狗(dog)”几乎多为贬义。这其中奥秘就是文化的差异,在我国与“狗”有关的成语,基本为贬义,如:“狗急跳墙”、“狗仗人势”、“猪狗不如”、“狗眼看人”等,再如汉语俗语中的“哈巴狗”、“癞皮狗”、“狗腿子”和“狗行千里改不了吃屎”等。
