He was born in Pakistan, and his family immigrated(移居) to America when he was just a year old. (2022温州中学高一期中) Attending a live musical performance in a huge sports center with lots of supporters of the musician is exciting. In the USA, a very different kind of performance space is gaining in popularity.
Singer-songwriter Annalise Emerick is getting ready to play in Nashville, Tennessee. It is something she does most nights in coffee houses, bars and other small spaces across the USA. But tonight, the setting is even smaller. Ms. Emerick will play for a few people in Kristina Shulz's home. Ms. Shulz has been holding such performances in her home for about four years. The crowd is usually a mix of family, friends and neighbors. But some strangers might show up, too."We've done rock, we've had blues, pop, folk...and we'll have anything here," said Ms. Shulz.
House concerts have become an important part of Annalise Emerick's earnings. "I can play in a bar for 100 dollars, but if I play in a house concert, there are 50 people there and they all pay 20. Im having a great night. And they're all buying CDs. It's amazing," she said.
Ms. Emerick says house concert audiences tend to make more supportive fans. They follow her and buy her new records, and go to her shows when she is in town. "There's just a totally uniqueexperience as opposed to playing in a coffee shop or a bar or something like that. People are usually there in a coffee shop, but you don't always know if they're there for you."
Charlie Dahan teaches music management courses at Middle Tennessee State University. He used to organize shows for artists like Annalise Emerick. The downside for the artists is that most house concerts dont pay guarantees(保证金). So you have no idea how much money youre going to make. In fact, most house concerts by law are not allowed to charge admission(入场费). Most of them can only do a suggested donation, said Mr. Dahan. But Annalise Emerick says she has played in some homes so often that the owners have become her close friends. And thats been really nice for her.
28. What can we learn about the house concert in Ms. Shulz's home?
A. Different music has been played.
B. The setting is similar to that in bars.
C. Strangers are not allowed to attend.
D. The performance is only aimed at families.
29. What does the underlined part "a totally unique experience" refer to?
A. People all buy her CDs.
B. People get together as usual.
C. People come just for her music.
D. People pay much for her concert.
30. What is Charlie Dahan's opinion on the house concert?
A. It brings uncertain income.
B. It should charge admission.
C. It helps artists make friends.
D. It makes artists more popular.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. The advantages of house concerts
B. The popularity of house concerts
C. Ways to get loyal fans for artists
D. Chances to see a famous artist

(2022重庆高一期) Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely leading to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem.
Race walkers are conditioned (有身体条件的) athletes. The longest track and field event at the Summer Olympics is the 50-kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport’s rules require that a race walker’s knees stay straight through most of the leg swing (摆动) and one foot remain in contact with the ground at all times. It’s this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg, an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem, Mass.
Like running, race walking is physically demanding, she says. According to most data, race walkers moving at a pace of six miles per hour would burn about 800 calories(卡路里) per hour, which is about twice as many as they would burn walking, although fewer than running, which would probably burn about 1, 000 or more calories per hour.
However, race walking does not hit the body as hard as running does, Dr. Norberg says. According to her research, runners hit the ground with as much as four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1. 4 times their body weight with each step.
As a result, she says, some of the injuries connected with running, such as runner’s knee, are uncommon among race walkers. But the sport’s strange form does place much stress on the ankles (脚踝) and hips (臀部), so people with a history of such injuries might want to be careful in adopting the sport. In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first communicate with a coach or experienced racer to learn proper skills, she says. It takes some practice.
32. Why are race walkers conditioned athletes?
A. They must run long distances.
B. They do well in the marathon.
C. They have to follow special rules.
D. They are good at swinging their legs.
33. What advantage does race walking have over running?
A. It’s more popular at the Olympics.
B. It’s less challenging physically.
C. It’s more effective in body building.
D. It’s less likely to cause knee injuries.
34. What is Dr. Norberg’s suggestion for someone trying race walking?
A. Getting experts’ opinions.
B. Having a medical examination.
C. Employing an experienced coach.
D. Doing regular exercises.
35. Which word best describes the author’s attitude to race walking?
A. Puzzled.        B. Careful.        C. Supportive.        D. Worried.

(2022大庆一中高一期中) Art is an important part of any childrens education and upbringing(教养). Giving your child an appreciation of art encourages imagination, creativity and self-expression.    36    You can try the following tips.
37    If possible, take your children to museums or show your children books on art and artists every day. It's important to allow them to experiment on a daily basis. Give them access to a wide variety of supplies and allow your children to make their own decisions about what supplies to use.
Additionally, adults are supposed to talk to children about their creations. Discussing art with your children encourages reflections and critical thinking. Taking painting for example, you can invite your children to tell you about their painting.    38    Discuss how they feel when they create the works.
Readily offer praise, and avoid judging their work. Remember the process of creating art is more important than the end product.
If possible, parents can enroll youngsters in art classes.    39    If many choices are ready, consider allowing your children to pick what they'd like to try. Encourage them to stick with it for a little while before moving on to anything else.
Finally, kid-friendly art events in your community shouldn't be ignored. There could be an outdoor art festival, a paint-your-own-pottery workshop, or even a performance at your local library.    40
Newspapers, local blogs and fellow parents can be great resources for keeping track of art events.
A. Ask them to talk about the details.

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
(2022长沙高一期中)I was a proud mother of three children, my last little one being delivered in the middle of this pandemic. She was born in August and her name is Aida.
Shortly after having Aida, my mother-in-law showed me something she learned from her friend’s mother in an art class she attended weekly. She had showed me how to knit a scarf (织围巾). She showed me stitches and gave me her half done project.
I spent a lot of time breastfeeding my sweet little girl, so I had some extra time to do something with my hands throughout the day. I enjoyed making the scarf so I purchased tons of yarn (纱线) since it was winter. I wanted to make scarves for my three children as Christmas gifts.
There was a new family that moved in down the street. The only daughter of the family was Jane, a shy girl, aged 14, the same age of my oldest son David. It seemed that she came from a poor family, for she always wore old clothes. Worse still, in such cold days, she had no more clothes to wear and trembled with cold.
Due to the pandemic, society was thrown into crisis mode (危机模式). Schools were closed, food supplies and deliveries were stopped and children were stuck at home, In such discouraging times, however, they became good companions, talking and playing at home or around the houses.
It was very cold this winter. Every time David came back from outside, with a red face, he always cried, “Mum, it’s freezing outside!” Then he came over to see whether I finished the scarf. I could tell how impatient he was to wear my scarf sooner! I had to speed the project to satisfy his expectation. But David comforted me saying he could wait a few days. What a kind and considerate boy he was! Then my great project finally was accomplished on the morning ahead of Christmas.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I wrapped the scarf around David’s neck.
Later that day David came back saying Jane also deserved a scarf.
