教材分析
本课是一节阅读课，主要讲述了美国著名好莱坞电影演员Christopher Reeve的感人故事。Christopher Reeve主演了四部《超人》电影，支持健康、教育和儿童保护等事业。不幸的是，1995年，灾难降临在他身上。他在骑马时从马上坠落，摔断了颈部。在他妻子、家人和朋友的不断支持下，他最终找到了重新生活的意愿，开始了高强度的运动计划。之后，他重返电影事业，并且再度从事慈善事业。他积极乐观的态度鼓舞了很多疾病缠身的人。因此，他不仅是《超人》电影中的超级英雄，也是现实生活中的超级英雄。
教学目标
在本课学习结束时，学生能够：
1. 学生能够讲述克里斯托弗•里夫的主要生平故事；
2. 讨论超级英雄拥有的真正精神；
3. 理解标题 “The Superhero Behind Superman” 的真正含义。

Step 1 Warming-up
Take turns to ask and answer the questions.
1 What do “superhero” and “superman” mean?
2 What qualities should “superhero” and “superman” have?
3 Do you know any “superhero” or “superman” in real life / in books / in movies / in games? Can you describe her / his most moving story briefly?
4 Would you like to be a “superhero” or “superman”? Why or why not?
设计意图：创设语境，导入话题。就 superhero 和 superman 两个核心词汇的含义展开讨论，然后对比主人公 Christopher Reeve 的英雄名言表达自己的看法。
Step 2 Pre-reading
1 What do the two pictures tell you about Christopher Reeve?
2 What is happening in each picture?
3 How has Christopher Reeve changed?
设计意图：呈现两张体现Christopher Reeve 生活巨变的图片引导学生思考问题，然后观看 Christopher Reeve 参加1996年奥斯卡颁奖典礼盛况，回答相关问题、介绍情况。
Step 3 Reading
1. Read and summarize the main ideas.
设计意图：快速阅读，总结归纳段落大意。
2. Read again ant take notes of important facts about Christopher Reeve in the table below.
设计意图：第二遍阅读，找出影星超人到现实生活中的超人主要事迹。
3. Read the story again and answer the questions.
设计意图：训练学生快速找到相关问题信息，并思考其答案，主要是培养学生的提取归纳信息以及推理判断能力。
Step 4 Retelling and discussion
1. Retell Christopher Reeve’s life experiences.
设计意图：根据时间提示和主要关键信息，学生讲述 Christopher Reeve 的主要事迹，为后面的讨论输出做准备。
2. Group work
  What qualities should “a superhero” have according to Christopher Reeve’s story?
Explain the meaning of the sentence “What I do is based on powers we all have inside us … and you don’t have to be a superman to do it”?
What’s your understanding of the title “The Superhero Behind Superman”?
设计意图：较为熟练地整合性运用已有的英语语言知识，推断作者的意图、情感、态度和价值取向，提炼主题意义。
Step 5 Assignment
Suppose your group is going to create a superhero for a movie, what top qualities do you wish your superhero had?  
Try to think about at least Top 5 Superhero Qualities, write them down and explain why you wish the superhero had them.
设计意图：让学生充分展开想象力，为自己小组创设的英雄人物赋予至少五个超级英雄特征，并说明理由。使小组间有效地传递信息，表达个人观点和情感，建构恰当的交际角色和人际关系。

本课是一节阅读技巧“build up your empathy with the characters” 和词汇语法课，聚焦 Empathy和Synonyms and Antonyms。
教学目标
在本课学习结束时，学生能够：
1 理解Empathy和Sympathy的区别，并知道如何在阅读时和语篇人物产生共鸣并表达自己的看法。
2总结归纳超级英雄的伟大精神，与超级英雄角色产生共鸣。
3 理解同义词、反义词的概念、意义，准确地在语境中运用同义词和反义词。
教学重难点
【教学重点】
1. 回顾课文内容，理解Empathy的含义和作用。
2. 选择和使用恰当的同义词和反义词在不同语篇中的正确使用。
【教学难点】
在阅读中，深刻体会主要人物的思想感情，产生共鸣。根据要求，选择和使用恰当的同义词和反义词在不同语篇中的运用。
教学过程
Step 1 Revision
Check the assignment.
设计意图：检查上次小组作业情况，全班分享不同的电影超级英雄预设特征，达到求同存异的目的。利用单句练习，回顾课文的主要事件，引出下面“共情”学习主题。
Step 2 Reading strategy
1. What does “empathy” mean?
设计意图：引导学生根据常识猜测“empathy” 的含义，之后根据Skill Builder给出其具体内涵。
2. From which paragraph can we find the quality of empathy on Christopher Reeve? Can you give an example?  
设计意图：学生在了解“Build Up Your Empathy with the Characters”策略之后，回读课文，尝试找出与empathy相关的例子。
3. Imagine yourself in the following situations. Answer the questions.
设计意图：学生换位思考，站在不同角色的角度思考将要说的话，体会共情的含义。
4. Watch the video clip and understand deeper about empathy. Answer the questions.

2. Why are Synonyms and Antonyms Important?

3. Complete the Word Builder with words from the story. Then use the words to complete the sentences below. Read the passage and complete the form with words from the text.

Finish one of the following tasks.
1 What inspiration do you get from Christopher Reeve? Write down your inspiration and share your ideas in your group.
